Jr. Growers inspires youth ages 9-12 to connect
with the land and soil, food, community, and opportunity.
Jr. Growers will:
Work alongside farmers and community to learn about regenerative agriculture;
Learn how to grow and cook their own food and pick up some serious ag skills;
Engage in awesome S.T.E.A.M activities;
Sharpen their teamwork, communication & leadership skills;
and create many lasting memories on-farm, hands-on.
A day in the life of a Jr. Grower:
When Jr. Growers arrive they will build community with their peers and then take care of the animals on-farm. Each day begins with community care as campers set up their shared spaces before moving on to help care for our chickens and compost. They then introduce movement to their days through yoga, stretching, dancing, or collaborative games. Campers work alongside our farmers to build hands-on agricultural skills through planting, harvesting, caring for crops, restoring the land, and participating on seasonal projects around the farm. Once a week, we feature an educational opportunity led by local artists, chefs, librarians, farmers, and other guest educators from the KC Farm School community. Together, campers prepare, share, and clean up a fresh, vegetable-forward lunch using seasonal farm produce before spending the afternoon journaling, creating art, and exploring the farm. And, it’s summer camp after all, so there will be intentional time for rest, play, special projects, and water fun as well!
This year, Jr. Growers Summer Camp will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm with eight weekly sessions throughout June and July.
There is a suggested cost of $150 per Jr. Grower, per weekly session, and the registration below notes the first day each of weekly session begins (you can disregard the "1 total class - 7 hours” language. That’s just our silly scheduling system).
You will notice that $75 is a minimum payment below, so that you can Pay What You’re Able when you complete the registration.
Pay What You’re Able means exactly that! We never want financial resources to be a barrier to food or education, and we are committed to co-creating solutions that minimize those barriers. Please note, you will need to fill out a Jr. Growers Summer Camp form for each camper and each session.
